Symmetric Hypocycloidal Engine
The Symmetrical Hypocycloidal Engine (SH) is an innovative internal combustion engine design, where the traditional crankshaft is replaced by a compact, symmetrical hypocycloidal mechanism. This solution allows the piston to move inside the cylinder practically without friction, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
Benefits of Using the SH Engine
✅ Fuel Consumption Reduction – Eliminating friction between piston and cylinder reduces fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to traditional internal combustion engines
✅ Increased Durability – The absence of friction minimizes component wear, extending engine life
✅ Lightweight and Compactness – The symmetrical hypocycloidal mechanism is smaller and lighter than standard solutions, reducing overall engine weight and providing flexibility in mounting across various devices
Prototype and Design Development
The SH engine consists of:
- Cylinder and piston,
- A symmetrical mechanism composed of the main gear and planetary gear,
- Connecting rod cooperating with the planetary gear.
During operation, the piston drives the planetary gear, which simultaneously rotates around its own axis and the main gear’s axis, transferring rotational motion to the engine shaft. The symmetrical arrangement and precise balancing of components ensure smooth operation with significantly reduced vibration and noise levels. Development of Prototype 1 is currently underway.
The figure below illustrates the sequential phases of engine movement.
Applications of the SH Engine
✅ Internal combustion engines for passenger and commercial vehicles,
✅ Small and lightweight power generators
✅ Efficient air compressors
✅ Industrial equipment driven by internal combustion engines
